SHRI SATIJI BUYER GUIDE
Clear Span in PEB Buildings: What Buyers Should Understand
Clear span is the unobstructed width between main supports. It directly affects usable space, operations and structural design.
Why it matters
Internal columns can affect machinery, storage, vehicle movement and future layout flexibility.
Operations first
The right span should be based on how the space will be used, not only on a generic maximum.
Cost relationship
Larger clear spans can change member sizes and steel weight; the optimum comes from the project requirement.
Crane coordination
Crane buildings need additional coordination around clearances, loads and support systems.
Future changes
Consider whether future machinery, racking or layout changes need a more open floor plate.
Choose clear span from the operating layout, not from a generic maximum.
Start with machinery, storage racks, vehicle paths, production flow and maintenance access. If internal columns can sit safely between operating zones, a multi-span arrangement may be practical; if columns would obstruct movement or future rearrangement, a clear-span concept may be more valuable.
Crane clearances, hook travel, roof height, service routes and future extensions should be discussed at the same time because they affect the overall structural system. The most suitable span is therefore a project decision, not a standard number. Sharing a simple layout or sketch before design helps the engineer evaluate usable floor space, steel efficiency and expansion needs together.
